What's Here?
Magazines aimed at a general male market, which were released mainly in the 1950's and 60's, and also a few from the 70's.
What Makes Them 'Men's Magazines'?
Most of them have some sort of sexual content, whether it be pictorials of nude or scantily clad women, articles on sexual topics, or – if nothing else – advertising for services or products of a sexual nature.
That said, a lot of the material has to do with either (a) the ideal male lifestyle, full of slinky women and cocktail parties and swingin' bachelor pads, or (b) male adventure fantasies, usually involving daring escapes from Nazis or other badguys in some exotic faraway location.
What's Not Here?
There were a lot of other magazines aimed primarily at the male market which don't quite fall into the 'men's mag' category. These generally include: sports magazines; magazines containing primarily fiction stories (detective, Western); general-market mags like Esquire; comic book and monster mags; magazines for teens or young boys; nudist mags; magazines containing primarily hardcore pornographic images (as were prevalent mainly in the 70's). Also, foreign magazines, or mags that were released outside of the appropriate time frame, are also generally excluded.
Does This Website Contain Nudity?
Yes, but 95% is very brief, or usually just barely hidden.Until the late 60's / early 70's, men's magazines sold over the counter in the United States didn't even have full nudity on the interiors, much less on the cover. (Nudism mags were an exception, but nearly all of these were filled with naked people that you would NOT want to look at and could not possibly be titillated by. Seriously.)
There should, therefore, be NO magazine cover images on this site which feature female frontal nudity – only breasts and/or buttocks. A lot of the images might be sexually suggestive, of course.
Is Any of the Material Here 'Offensive'?
Yes! Nazis, torture of women, women treated as sex objects, and probably some racism and animal cruelty.
These covers are presented as cultural artifacts and as examples of mid-20th-century commercial artwork. We don't apologize for any of the material here – hell, we think it's awesome! If you're a prissy, easily-offended, politically correct whiner who might burst into tears at any moment, please feel free to fuck off.
